 Jean Impey

Workshop Details:

This workshop uses both collage and design techniques. Jean says "Freddy (Moran) and I collaborate on these fabulous faces. Our process requires a glue stick and basic design principles. Freddy and I have made hundreds of these. We both create our own faces and I quilt and finish all of my own using my own techniques for quilting: 'Pencil Quilting' and 'Sketchy Quilting'.

Have fun with this workshop, learn about composing faces with a minimum of fuss and fabric, then learn Jean's special quilting techniques for completing your design, quilting and binding.

Supply list -  Plan on making 2 to 3 portraits in this class

  • Background fabrics to make your Portraits on (fat quarters work well)
  • Scraps and fat quarters to use to "paint" your face and features
  • Plan on using lots of different fabrics.
  • Larger scale novelty fabrics (notice the trains used for her hair?)
  • Fabrics for fussy cutting: do you have anything that might look like an eye? A round or oval shape? Peacock feathers? Bring all your scraps with you.
  • Scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat.
  • Glue stick! Very important - you may need several large ones. We prefer Elmer's Washable School Glue Sticks. The glue stick material is a purple color. You can buy these at office supply stores.

All sewing, quilting, and finishing will be demonstrated by teacher so it will be stress-free and fun, and you can complete at home!
