Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Danville Congregational Church, 989 San Ramon Valley Boulevard, Danville, California. From 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. members have the opportunity to sign in at the reception table, pick up their name tag, look through the Guild Library, look over the contributions to the Block Party, pay dues, buy raffle tickets, and socialize. Our meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. with announcements and officer's reports. Just prior to our Program is Show and Tell, which is each member's opportunity to get assistance for a project-in-progress, share a completed success, or show a latest find. Meetings are subject to change due to holiday or facility availability.
DVQ is committed to the education of members and to the continuation of the art of quilting for future generations. To achieve these objectives, a portion of the DVQ budget each year is allocated to attracting talented quilters to speak at our monthly meetings. Many of these speakers have national and international reputations, have published books, teach professional seminars, and have appeared on television. We attempt to create a mix of speakers in order to satisfy the broad range of interests of our members while inspiring us to learn new styles and techniques. The monthly newsletter provides information on upcoming speakers. In addition, DVQ offers practical education for members through workshops. These workshops teach a variety of skills, from beginner to advanced, and from traditional to contemporary. We welcome suggestions from our members for desired workshop subjects. Workshop descriptions, locations, dates, times and costs are printed in the monthly newsletter. Members may enroll and pay their registration fees at the General Meetings or contact the Workshop Chairperson. When registering for any workshop, payment is needed to hold your place in the class.
The Quilters Quill, DVQ's monthly newsletter, is sent to all dues paying members. The newsletter contains valuable and timely information about Guild activities, membership, and other quilt related topics. Contributions to the newsletter are welcome. The newsletter is sent in full color via e-mail. For our members who do not have an e-mail address, a black-and -white hard copy can be mailed to them.
DVQ maintains an extensive library. Members may borrow books and tapes for one month at no charge. New additions to the DVQ library are announce in the monthly newsletter. DVQ also maintains a stencil library, and has two quilt frames and a light box that also may be borrowed by members.
Members are invited to join in making as many blocks as they choose, following the instructions printed in the monthly newsletter. The Block Party Coordinator collects the blocks at the designated membership meeting and displays them for members to view. Members' names go into a basket for each block that is brought. During the meeting one name is drawn as the winner of all the blocks. At the discretion of the Coordinator, more than one winner may be drawn depending on the number of blocks entered.
Our quilt shows attract an average of 1,000 visitors. We exhibit more than 175 of our member's quilts, and have an Opportunity Quilt, which is designed and pieced by our members. Proceeds from the sale of tickets for the Opportunity Quilt go towards the budget for the Guild's monthly programs. Members are invited to sell items in the Quilt Show Boutique. Any quilt-related item may be offered, including hand-made items (e.g. small quilts, dolls, ornaments, etc.) DVQ retains 20% of the selling price for items sold at the Boutique by Guild members.
Early each year a selection of fabrics and/or a theme for a quilt and instructions are made available to members for the Guild Challenge Quilt. Members have until the quilt show to complete their project. Quilt Show attendees vote for first, second , and third place Challenge Quilt winners each year. Winners are announce in the first monthly meeting following the quilt show, and in the monthly newsletter.
Pins with the DVQ logo are available from the Membership Chairman at each meeting and at our annual quilt show for $5.00 each.
DVQ Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at Prudential Realty, 630 San Ramon Valley Blvd., Danville. All Guild members are welcome to attend Board Meetings.
The official membership year for DVQ is from January 1 to December 31. Regular dues are $30.00 per year. Seniors (65 and older) pay $20.00 per year. DVQ offers Junior membership to promote an appreciation of quilting among the youth in our area. Junior membership is available to youth in grades 6-12, and is free when sponsored by a paid member. Dues for new members joining the Guild during the year drop to half-price in July. New members who join at or after the Quilt Show in September pay dues for the following year and receive the balance of the current year for free. Dues are charged annually, and are due on November 30th. Members not paying by that time will be dropped from the newsletter mailing list and will not be listed in the next Membership Directory. A membership renewal form is published in the September through November newsletters.
Upon joining DVQ a Guild name tag will be made for each new member. When arriving at the meeting members sign in at the reception table and pick up their name tag. Name Tags for new members are pink for the first year of their membership to assist current members in welcoming new-comers to the Guild. Charter members of DVQ have a red star on their name tag. Officers' and Committee Chairs' name Tags are yellow. Name Tags for our Junior members are blue. All other name tags are white.
A current DVQ membership card entitles members to a discount at many area quilt and fabric stores, when presented at the time of purchase.
The membership directory is a listing of current, dues-paid members of Diablo Valley Quilters. In addition to the name, address and phone numbers of dues-paid members, DVQ also publishes e-mail addresses of our members. The DVQ directory is not to be used by members or non-members for the purpose of advertising, solicitation, or for the promotion of political or religious viewpoints.
