Sue has been quilting for 28 years, starting by hand and gradually
focusing on conferences, including AQS, IQA and NQA. She has also
taught internationally in England, Norway and Spain. Sue's major awards
include 1998 AQS Best of Show for “The Beatles Quilt” made by Sue and
her sister, Pat Holly. Their quilt, “The Space Quilt” won the 2003 IQA
Master of Machine Artistry Award and the 2004 AQS Machine Workmanship
Award. Sue emphasizes the best quality workmanship, never

Rami Kim is a DNA scientist-turned fabric artist/quilter/instructor known nationally and
internationally. She is a 11-time Best of Show winner, distinguished for her innovative
art-to-wear. Her passion is in contemporary art-to-wear, quilts, cloth dolls and bags with
special interest in 3-dimensional textures and she is known for her own distinctive colors and

Velda Newman is an internationally recognized contemporary quilt artist, author and lecturer
from Northern California. Known for her large scale, mostly organic designs, Velda creates

publications, including Quilter's Newsletter and Threads magazine. She lives in Northern

Workshop with Rami Kim: Saturday March 20, 2010: The Fifth Dimension: Go
beyond traditional 3-D. In this technique workshop you will learn 5 of the exotic and unusual
methods that are the trademark of Rami's award-winning works including hexagon and
biscuit chopkey, mirror-imaged continuously folded prairie points, harlequin tucks, North
American hand smoking and lined prairie points.
This workshop could be the answer to those who wish to know about adding 3-dimensional
textures and a lot more extra touches to art-to-wear and quilts.

Sandy's love of pictorial fabric has taken many directions over the years. A trunk show of pictorial
quilts, showing the use and quilt designs most appropriate for those hard to use focus and pictorial
fabrics. Sandy has been teaching quilt making for the past 20 years. In the October 2003 issue of
Quilters’ Newsletter Magazine, her article, entitled “I Love the Fabric, But What Do I Do With It?” was
published. Another article of the same title is due to appear in Quilters' Newsletter on the subject of
design and construction techniques involved in the Around the Twist traditional quilt with pictorial

twist traditional quilt pattern is paired with your favorite pictorial fabric/fabricks. Or, it could be
used as a setting for a variety of appliquéd or pieced blocks. Squares or rectangles twist around
to provide a wonderful design for your fabrics and/or blocks. This class covers color and
construction techniques for any size blocks.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010 Jill Schumacher: National Award winning machine quilter, Jill
began making her first quilts at the age of 12. Having been an art major, Jill has dabbled in
many different art forms. It was not until many years later that Jill was introduced to the art of
machine quilting in 1997. She fell in love with this method of quilting and has not stopped since
first experiencing the thrill of completing each heirloom quilt. Her first machine quilted quilt won
the Best of Show at the Siskiyou County Fair in 1998 and went on to take Second Place in the
State level competition. This recognition started Jill’s journey into competitions and later, the
inception of her quilting business, Quiltmaker to the Queen.

Saturday, October 23, 2010, Workshop with Jill Schumacher: Mini Whole Cloth, This
class is for those who have explored beginning machine quilting but would like to learn more.
This class is geared toward the quilter who can do simple machine quilting basics but wants to
learn more elaborate designs and how to stitch them properly. Students will learn beautiful
feather designs and background stitches and will successfully come away from the class with a
suitable wall hanging or designer pillow.
